MY JOURNEY

Creative Writing

My interest in writing short stories and romantic poetry began when I was 14 years old. During my early 20s, after completing a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English Literature with a Secondary Teaching Certificate, I taught English in middle school for two years. Then I  was accepted to a Master of Arts Creative Writing Program at the University of Montana in Missoula, Montana. I decided not to attend and instead began my own exploration to understand what I wanted to express in my writings. I began writing journals and studying a wide variety of psychological, religious, spiritual, political, and philosophical writings and teachings. My journals became a form of self-therapy and growth, as well as where I made notes for future writing projects and about the ideas I was exploring. I often wrote stream-of-consciousness passages, which I referred to as Wordstreams, some of which I have revised and published.

MY SEARCH FOR MEANING – UNDERSTANDING HOLISTIC WAYS OF BEING

I began studying astrology when I was 25 years old after my 2nd Jupiter return. As Jupiter, the Life Ruler of my natal chart, made its second return to its position when I was born, I began to feel the need to seek to understand the meaning of life in a holistic and comprehensive way.

I feel fortunate that my study of astrology began with reading Dane Rudhyar’s books, such as The Astrology of Personality and The Pulse of Life. I resonated with Dane Rudhyar’s explanation of astrological symbolism using concepts from Carl Jung’s theories.

I also feel fortunate that during my early study of astrological concepts and techniques, I was exposed to the writings and teachings of such highly regarded astrologers as Liz Greene, Mark Robertson, Richard Idemon, Tracy Marks, Diana Cunningham, Stephen Arroyo, Michael Meyers, Robert Hand, and Alan Oken. These astrologers were pioneers in interpreting the astrological model and symbolism in psychological and spiritual growth terms.

While living in Toronto, Canada, in 1975, I was fortunate to study under an astrologer, Robin Armstrong. As one of his focuses, he researched the cyclical and seasonal relationship between astrology and the I Ching.

Eventually, I became primarily interested in sharing with others the value of understanding the astrological holistic model of cyclical patterns. Dividing the cycle into 12 phases provides the basis of the meanings of the 12 Signs (ways of being) and Houses (areas of life experiences).

These archetypal phases represent 12 developmental potentials that each individual can actualize in unique ways. These cyclical patterns are not deterministic and do not cause specific events to occur – yet synchronistically, certain events in an individual’s life can reflect these developmental potentials as they become actualized.

These developmental phases of time provide an evolving holistic structure & rhythm that can allow a person to make more meaningfully holistic choices.  Actualizing one’s unique individual potential ultimately allows the person to more fully share and contribute to the well-being of significant others as well as the diversity of others in the global community.
